    Scope

    This course supports the development of ethical judgement and responsible decision making in laboratory practice, with particular emphasis on patient safety, data integrity, and ethical requirements relevant to medical laboratories. 
    This is an intermediate level course intended for laboratory personnel working in clinical and research laboratory environments. The course builds on foundational awareness of confidentiality and impartiality in laboratory practice.


    It should take you approximately 8 hours to complete this course, including the Multiple-Choice Quizzes.

    Learning Objectives

    After completing this intermediate training course, you should be able to:

    • Describe the concept of medical ethics and explain its importance in laboratory practice.
    • Explain personal and professional values and recognise how these influence ethical decision making and professional behaviour in laboratory settings.
    • Apply the Code of Medical Laboratory Professional Guidelines to routine laboratory activities and clinical scenarios.
    • Select and use an appropriate ethical decision making framework to analyse laboratory related ethical dilemmas, taking into account professional ethics, legal requirements, and diverse values.
    • Discuss ethical issues related to access to care and allocation of resources, with reference to laboratory roles and responsibilities.
