  • Scope (Full Course)

    This course will cover ethical topics using a case-based format, including the relationship between patient and medical laboratory professional, the allocation of scarce medical lab resources, as well as pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical ethical issues.  It will also cover the need for ethical behaviour when conducting research.

    It should take you approximately 8 hours to complete this course, including the Multiple-Choice Quizzes.

    Outcomes (Full Course)

    After completing this course, you should

    • Have the knowledge to describe the concept of Medical Ethics and its importance for laboratory professionals.
    • Be able to clarify personal and professional values and recognise their impact on decision making and professional behaviour.
    • Know how to apply the Code of Medical Laboratory Professional Guidelines to clinical practice.
    • Be able to select a clinically useful ethical decision-making framework that incorporates moral concepts, professional ethics, and law and respects diverse values and beliefs.
    • Have the ability to discuss ethical issues related to access to care and allocation of resources.
